Citizens Housing and Planning Association (CHAPA)
CHAPA is a statewide umbrella organization whose members include housing authorities, non-for-profit housing developers, state agencies, for-profit developers, and others. CHAPA's core activities include housing advocacy, research, community education and training, and coalition building. The organization also manages Mass Access, a listing of units designed for people with disabilities.
Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD)
DHCD is the leading state housing agency for funding and technical assistance to local governments and community agencies. DHCD administers state public housing, rental assistance, and other housing programs.
MassHousing (Massachusetts Housing Finance Agency)
A quasi-state agency created to finance development of both market rate and affordable housing, MassHousing manages the DMH/DMR Set-aside Program, through which 3% of affordable units are reserved for clients of either department.
Technical Assistance Collaborative
A national organization based in Boston that works on behalf of people with disabilities or other special needs, the Technical Assistance Collaborative offers information, capacity building and technical expertise, and publishes housing updates and a newsletter.
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)
HUD is the federal government's primary housing agency, providing funding for housing production and rental assistance along with homeless programs.
National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC)
NLIHC is a membership organization providing advocacy, research and publications, and networking opportunities dedicated to ending America's affordable housing crisis.
National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI)
NAMI is a membership organization that advocates for housing and services, providing information and position papers on a variety of relevant topics including affordable housing.
